The longest country in the world from north to south IS…… Brazil. BUT it only beats out Chile (the country most people assume to be the longest) by 95 kilometers!
Chile stretches over 4,300 km (2,670 mi) from north to south and only 350 km (217 mi) from east to west. This length, allows the country to have a remarkable variety of climates and landscapes.
Chile has at least 7 major climates! In the north there are deserts; in the east there are mountain ranges (a technical term for this is alpine tundra); in the south there are oceanic climates where there are cool summers and winters; and in central Chile there is Mediterranean climate where there are dry summers and wet winters. You also have glaciers in the southeast and subtropical humid climates in Easter Island!
